Facelifts, Neck Lifts & Chin Lifts

Are your neck, face and cheeks drooping and showing the signs of aging?

A refreshing face lift is a great way to rejuvenate your look, instantly giving you a more youthful appearance. This procedure focuses on the lower half of your face, particularly the jaw line and neck. It involves taking away excess skin from your neck, chin and cheeks whilst tightening everything up and reducing wrinkles.

Eyebrows and forehead wrinkles can be treated with an endoscopic brow lift. It’s worth discussing the look you’d like to achieve with your surgeon so you can both determine what’s right for you.

The surgery is carried out under general anaesthetic and can take between 2 to 4 hours, sometimes 6 depending on how complex the procedure is. It requires a 1 to 2 night stay in our hospital. After surgery you’ll find your hairline has been lifted and for men, your beard growth will be closer to and extend back below the ear. The results are really impressive, giving your jaw more definition and creating a sharper profile.

Your specialist surgeon will take you through the process step by step, explaining every stage and ensuring you’re comfortable with everything from start to finish.

The surgical name for this procedure is a rhytidectomy and here’s how we do it.

You can also choose to have just a cheek lift, chin augmentation or even improve your jaw line. These procedures are great to balance out the face and create a more pleasing structure all round. It can put the nose, chin, cheeks and jawline perfectly in proportion.

Bruising and swelling

With any facelift surgery you can expect bruising and swelling around the face and neck for 3 to 6 weeks. This puffiness may hide the full results of your procedure for a few months. Initially your face may feel stiff and a little strange, but this will settle.

A little discomfort

You’re bound to feel uncomfortable afterwards, until the drains and dressings have been removed. It should fade away within 2 to 3 days. In the meantime, we’ll prescribe and administer pain relief as required to ease any discomfort.

You can expect incisions in creases behind and in front of the ears and near the scalp. Scarring is fairly unnoticeable and fades over time, but your surgeon will take you through the process to ensure you are happy and understand the procedure.

A change in sensation

A few patients have reported an increase or decrease in sensitivity on their face. This usually settles down after a few weeks, though it can last a little longer and for a small number of patients, it can be permanent. Also, damage can occur to the nerves that control the movement of the mouth and eyebrows. These may take six weeks to recover, and though it is rare, some nerves never recover, resulting in loss of movement.
